Who's Invited?

The Phoenix Ranch Writer's Retreat is open to anyone interested in the writing process.  Whether you are thinking about being a writer, are a beginning writer, or a seasoned writer with a pen name and 27 books published, you will benefit from being on this beautiful land with other writers and experts to help grow your craft.  The only caveat?  Because of travel restrictions and insurance liabilities, you must be 18 years or older to join us.

Where Will I Sleep?

Phoenix Ranch offers "Rustic" accommodations.

This means that although there is electricity, heat is an extra blanket and air conditioning is an open window and a small fan.  You will be assigned either a bunkhouse or cabin room with a real bed.  There is a community bathhouse (with toilets and showers, much like a KOA Kampground) and a community kitchen; a weight room is available for your use, too.

There are no computers, unless you bring your own, and Internet access is limited, unless you have your own broadband access through your cell phone carrier.

If you prefer a more "natural" experience, tent camping in the valley is also available.

What's To Eat?

Good Food is part of the fun!  A lot of food is harvested directly from the ranch. Our meals will be fresh, nutritious and (where possible) organic. If you have special dietary concerns, please send us an email and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

What Should I bring?

Please pack everything you bring with you in soft-sided duffle-style luggage.  This will make it easier to load.  Basically, bring only what you would need for a weekend away at a camp ground.

Here's a list of some recommended things you should bring with you to the Phoenix Ranch Writer's Retreat:

  • A Laptop (and charger) or Notebook & Pens, depending on how you like to write.

  • Medications you can't live without for the weekend.

  • Bug repellant (mosquito and tick), we recommend Cutters; and most especially the Cutters wipes for those delicate and hard-to-reach places.

  • Comfortable clothes and shoes; bring extra old ones that you don't mind getting REALLY dirty if you want to go caving. A laundry bag of some sort is also a good idea if you do go caving.  Large trash bags work great for this!

  • Swimsuit and towel, and an extra towel for bathing, if you need it.

  • Bathroom stuff; shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant; to limit your luggage, we recommend travel sizes.

  • A hat-clip-on, head light, and/or flashlight for those times when you might need to write or walk in the woods at night; make sure it is stocked with fresh batteries - bring extras if you think you'll need them.

  • Energy, Enthusiasm and your Writer's Spirit!

What Should I Leave At Home?

Phoenix Ranch is a Family Retreat Center, and we want to respect the desires of the owners to keep it "family friendly" so they will invite us back again next year.

Here is a list of things that we would rather you left at home:

  • Cigarettes

  • Alcohol

  • Illegal Drugs

  • Pets

  • Negative Energy
